Everything you need to know about renting a property in Morocco as a Moroccan living abroad — from required documents to your tenant rights
To rent in Morocco, you will need the following documents. Prepare them in advance to speed up the process.
National ID card (CIN)
Copy of your valid national identity card
Passport
Copy of your valid passport (especially if your CIN has expired)
Proof of income
Last 3 bank statements, employment contract, or transfer proof
Proof of residence
Document proving your current address in your country of residence
Tax return (optional)
Latest tax return to prove your solvency
Guarantor (in some cases)
The landlord may require a guarantor residing in Morocco
The lease contract is a legal document between the landlord (owner) and the tenant. It is always recommended to formalize it in writing for legal protection.

As an MRE, you have several options for transferring money to Morocco to pay rent and the security deposit:
🏦 RME Account (Moroccan Resident Abroad)
Open a foreign currency bank account in a Moroccan bank (CIH, Attijariwafa, BMCE...). It allows you to transfer and manage your money in foreign currency.
💶 International bank transfer (SWIFT)
Direct transfer from your bank account in your country of residence to the landlord's Moroccan account. Fees range from 5 to 30 EUR depending on the bank.
💸 Western Union / MoneyGram
Fast transfer service available in minutes. Suitable for small and medium amounts. Relatively high fees.
🌐 Wise (formerly TransferWise)
Online transfer service with low fees and real exchange rates. The best value for regular transfers.
💳 PayPal / Payoneer
Digital options for small transfers. Not ideal for large amounts due to fees.

Always keep proof of transfer (receipts, screenshots). They may be needed in case of a dispute.
